The Edmonton Era 1971-Present
In 1968, “408 Tactical Fighter Squadron” was based in Rivers, MB as part of 10 Tactical Air Group, flying the venerable T33 in a ground attack and aerial combat role. On 20 March 1970, 408 Sqn was presented its standard for 25 years of service. Three weeks later, the Sqn was disbanded.
The Squadron was re-activated Jan 1, 1971, at CFB Namao, as “408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron” flying CH135 Twin Huey and CH136 Kiowa helicopters. Over the next 35 years, 408 THS was involved in all exercises in support of No. 1 Canadian Brigade Group (later 1 CMBG). In 1996 408 Squadron was re-equipped with the CH146 Griffon Helicopter
It also has participated in numerous Operations, Exercises, Overseas Deployments and Peacekeeping Tours.
