408 Squadron Commanding Officers, Killed in Action Squadron History copyright 1984 Wing Commander D S Jacobs Commanding Officer, November 27, 1943 – May 22,1944.
“ W/C David S Jacobs was taking over as Commanding Officer of 408 Squadron. Like W/C Mair he was on his second tour of Operations and brought his first tour (Hampden) crew with him. He was a sensitive and gifted administrator much like Wing Commander W D S Ferris.”
“On May 22nd another shock wave went through the Squadron with the loss of W/C Jacobs
and crew during a raid on Dortmund. They were just two trips short of completing a second
tour and being screened from operations. It was a bad night for the Squadron. Two of the 3
Six Group aircraft lost that night were from 408.”
